Studio

Registered in 2016, still reading the night book in the hall

The official registered business name is Cognit Weave Analytics Co., Ltd. The company was established in 2016 in Bangkok. The drawing tables remain at our Khlong Sam Wa address.

How the studio started

Lada Sorn spent eight years as a production clerk in a family weaving shed near Min Buri. Her job was to copy cloth meters into a book the owner opened mainly when a buyer disputed a delivery. In 2015 she began drawing a fortnight as one sheet, so the argument could happen over paper instead of over memory. The first paid commission, in 2016, was for a shed on Nimitrmai Road. That year the company was registered.

Preecha Man joined in 2019. He had counted picks on shuttle looms in Samut Prakan and wanted the drawing work more than the night shift. Dye-lot ledgers were added the same year, after a weaving client asked why a passed lot looked duller in the hall than it had beside the vat. Seconds charts followed when cutting rooms started sending us piles instead of books.

The practice is a careful account of what a weaving hall, dye house, or cutting room already wrote down. We travel to the mill for the reading. The ink happens back at the studio.

Lada Sorn

Founder · clerk’s training

Lada still takes the first reading on a new shed. She is particular about lines the clerk filled after the weavers left, and she will leave a gap rather than guess a smeared digit.

Draughtsman · since 2019

Preecha draws the sheets and mounts the office wall charts. Years of counting picks taught him which marks a fitter can use and which marks only look tidy.

How we work with a mill

We ask for the person who wrote the book, not only the owner. A chart that the night shift will not recognise is a decoration. Review happens before the ink is final, in the office or on the floor, under the lamp the staff actually use.

We keep the mill’s figures private. After the fee is paid, the sheets belong to the mill. We may describe the method — a night book, a shade card, a remnant pile — without publishing another shed’s meters.
